Day 1 was tiring but full of fun!

02 April 2010

The 8 hours journey to Kampar started at 10pm, we did stop at a few rest stations for snacks and toilet breaks.

Kaya toast at one of the stations, I didn't eat it as I wanted to leave space for much yummier food at Kampar.

I had a barley drink while sister had an ice coffee.

Reached our house in Kampar at around 5.30 to 6am and we started preparing the items for tomb sweeping.

My uncle writes the names of our ancestors on each slip of paper.

And my Mum helps to glue the slips of paper on each box.

Vintage-looking glue stick, haha!

I helped Mum too.

This paper shirt is for Grandma, full of love and hearts.

See! Huugo Boss slippers.

We went for breakfast at one of our aunt's stall while waiting for my other aunt buys roast meat from the wet market nearby.

Dry ban mian with black sauce. Thumbs up!

Mixture of diff yong tau foo, an always must-have!

Curry chee cheong fun, my favourite breakfast.

Penang laksa, not bad.

Favourite drink, milo dinosaur cannot be compared to this!

The wet market.

Beware of the cow dang on the road!

All ready to set off for tomb sweeping.

Firecrackers - checked.

The whole mountain was brown colour because of the Qing Ming Festival, the owners of this place burnt the mountain of weeds, so people will not have to do weeding.

First stop: Great Grandparents.

Cousin Ivan removing the branches from the long branch.

Daddy hangs the firecracker up.

Lighting the candles and incense.

Pretty rays of sunlight.

We lighted the firecracker! Wee~

Second stop: Grandpa.

We're not the only group of people lighting firecrackers.

Cleaning up Grandpa's tomb.

Food.

My cousin lighting the firecracker.

And there it goes off again!

Third stop: Grandma.

Waiting for my Mum and Aunt to finish praying the god.

Daddy was too tired, he fell asleep because he has been driving through the night.

Here's my beloved Grandma.

Third firecracker going off!

Fourth stop: Grandpa's brother, he passed away young around 18 years old.

I actually like this place... haha! Due to the vintage tables.

There is also a well for washing up. This stop is the most cooling, I usually wait for the rest to finish preparing, then I will go over and just light the incense.

This Indian man takes care of these dogs, the dogs will just follow him around whenever he goes.

A very normal tomb with just a tombstone.

Time for lunch after all the tomb sweeping.

Whenever we step into restaurants, the amount of food we eat is just like having buffet. Pictures below are just some of the dishes we had.

All cleared!

As all of us are very tired, we went home, bathed and napped till it was time for dinner.

Chicken porridge.

Smooth, tender chicken, Fabulously yummy!

Wanton noodle.

Thin wanton skin, another must-have whenever we're back.

A cute little kitty came by and wanted some food from me. Very cute! How could I not feed her?

Gave her my wanton and my brother gave her some leftover chicken.

Daddy got kuehs for supper. I think I got fatter today.

Most show all of you this blanket of mine even though it's only big enough to cover my legs. The blanket is sewn by my Mum when I was still a kid. Aww~ I left the blanket in Malaysia, so that I could use it whenever I am back but I've out-grown it. Haha!
